Brief; to obtain Seasonal Planning Permission for the installation of Seafront Observation Wheel
A&P Designs’ planning team, were instructed to undertake studies and early engagement with the
home Local Planning Authority, East Suffolk Council, for the seasonal installation and operation of a
mobile Observation Wheel, the type of which at the time, was one of only three operating in the UK.
The project involved the engagement of the Town Council, General Public, Environmental Section of
the Council as well as Local Arcade and Shop owners on the Seafront.
Felixstowe had been identified for regeneration, and the proposed attraction was to form part of the
overall strategy to increase tourist footfall in the region, and the return of the Great British Seaside
Holiday.
After some time of negotiation and demonstration of retention of matters including, retention of sea
wall integrity and performance, noise and operational impact factors, A&P achieved a successful
result for our clients.
The attraction was featured heavily on Local and Regional News, as well as the wider press. The
Local Initiative has proved very successful, with the Observation wheel forming a major visual draw
for families holidaying locally.
